MSNBC Buys Domain Name BreakingNews.com

First MSNBC bought the Twitter handle @BreakingNews, late last month,; however, apparently they weren't done, and are in the process of acquiring the domain namesake, BreakingNews.com, to enhance their competitive advantage in the business of news. According to Rafat Ali, MSNBC is also buying the domain BreakingNews.com, from its current owner, to build its real time news delivery service.

This is the perfect domain for a media outlet, and seems to be an even more natural fit than iReport.com that was purchased by CNN last January from self-proclaimed Domain King, Rick Schwartz, for $750,000. This kind of makes we wonder, how much MSNBC had to shell out for such a highly brandable domain that has an obvious nexus to the media/news vertical; only time will tell.
